Background: Beanie was a very under socialized cat that was being worked with by our feline behavior team when she was adopted in March 2024. Her new family has been going at her pace and has an amazing update to share about her progress:
Beanie spent several months living in our kitchen cabinets when we first adopted her. There was a lot of fear as she acclimated to us and the new space. We played a lot of cat music for her in the beginning and would just sit next to her and talk to her with the cabinet door open. Luckily, Beanie is incredibly treat motivated and we were able to slowly gain her trust.
April – she started coming out in the day time to eat while we were around.
May – she started playing with toys and string.
June – she began exploring much more of our apartment & found sunny spots to nap
July – we were able to softly touch her with food in front of her (sometimes).
August – we moved apartments and had some minor setbacks but Beanie quickly gained confidence as we gradually introduced her to the new space.
September – we began petting her without treats, Beanie began purring around us, and she also started hopping up on our bed occasionally.
October – Beanie now actively seeks out affection, meows and chatters at us when we speak to her, asks to get picked up and snuggled. She even hopped up on one o four laps as we were typing in a chair. She still likes the occasional cabinet nap but has been known to nap on chairs as of late.
We are so proud of our little Beanie and grateful for her fiery and sweet spirit. It matches ours perfectly.
